Sad News for Tesla Motors Fans...

Tesla May Not Try and Pursue it's Battery Swapping Stations After All...

For those who enjoy the antics of Tesla Motors and their electric car strategy, one of the most intriguing developments lately has been their plan to utilize battery swap stations. Normally Tesla drivers have to plug in and wait the 45 or so minutes before their car is fully charged again, but these battery swapping stations would change all that.

The idea is very similar to that of a gas station. A driver pulls up, pays, and in a Tesla Motorcar case, an automated system pulls out the empty battery pack and plugs in a fully charged one automatically. In fact, this process takes less time than the average combustion engine commuter to fill up a 16 gallon tank.

So why is this probably not going to happen? Well it costs upwards of $60 per swap, as much even as $100. Plus the existing charging infrastructure (which is largely available free of charge) seems to do Tesla customers just fine. Perhaps sometime in the future we can have an interesting gadget such as this, but alas we are ahead of the times yet again!
